Products I use on my skin

What is my daily facial regimen?

Not that I’m an expert or claim to have the best skin, but I believe that my skin is smoother, softer, feels cleaner than it ever did before after I started using this regimen.

It’s very simple.

I was using Clean and Clear morning burst… it SOUNDED all nice on the description and it did a decent job of keeping my face clean, but then I decided to read the label one day while in the shower.  I discovered it’s made by Johnson & Johnson and I was pretty appalled right then and there that I even used it on my face.  Johnson & Johnson is well known to be one of the worst, highly toxic brands that are bad for your skin.

This the morning burst: http://www.cleanandclear.com/products/facial-cleansers/morning-burst-facial-cleanser

I would follow it with this cleanser: http://www.cleanandclear.com/products/facial-cleansers/morning-burst-fruit-infusions-facial-cleanser-reviving-cleanser (But i use the pineapple one… sounds all fancy on the bottle)

I plugged these into ewg website to find the toxicity rating… (this website will give you a rating if you type a product in the search line… low numbers are good and high numbers are BAD.  it goes up to 10 I believe)

Morning burst gets an 8 !!! OMGhttp://www.ewg.org/skindeep/product/479665/Clean_%26_Clear_Morning_Burst_Cleanser/    here is a copy and paste “Other HIGH concerns: Biochemical or cellular level changesEndocrine disruptionMultiple, additive exposure sourcesContamination concerns,Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs)MiscellaneousOccupational hazards,Persistence and bioaccumulationOther MODERATE concerns:CancerOrgan system toxicity (non-reproductive)Other LOW concerns: Enhanced skin absorptionData gapsEcotoxicology ”

that is absolutely shameful.  I can’t believe I even admitted to using this stuff!  I’m not going to post about the pineapple one… you get the picture!  If you think that MAYBE the stuff you already use is okay… please go to the website and see if it is or not.  It doesnt hurt to KNOW.  Inform yourself!  www.ewg.org/skindeep

So that goes in the garbage! Now what?

Well I started using a sugar scrub I made myself.  It took about 15 minutes tops to make with things I already had in my kitchen.  I made a coconut lime sugar scrub! (I will try to add a photo tomorrow)

This is how easy… you just mix the following together (and if you don’t like the one i picked or have the ingredients.. go on pinterest and you will find just zillions of other recipes) I got the recipe here: http://www.theidearoom.net/2013/05/coconut-lime-sugar-scrub.html#_a5y_p=661664

1/4 cup of coconut oil (melted- it’s summer and hot out so mine was already melted in my pantry in the jar)

1 cup of white sugar

1 tablespoon of shredded coconut

6-8 drops of Lime essential oil (I did not have Lime oil on hand… I WISH I did and I think I will be buying some soon, but instead for the time being I used the juice from two freshly squeezed limes… I eyeballed the consistency as i stirred it in little by little.  Then i zested the two lime peels and mixed that in too)

Just put it on all over your body & face in the shower and rinse off… my skin felt immediately AMAZING!  Now there is concern on coconut oil clogging drains.  I have not had this problem yet, but on pinterest you can find other oils for a base… olive oil… jojoba oil… grapeseed oil…. just search for what works for you) There is nothing toxic about that!  And you can even eat it if you really wanted to… I put it on my face and do get some of it on my lips and have to say it tastes pretty good 🙂

So when I get out of the shower I have to lock the moisture in so I use two products:

  1. Yes to Cucumber Calming Night Cream (http://www.amazon.com/Yes-Cucumbers-Calming-Night-Cream/dp/B007AS626G/ref=pd_sim_bt_2) I use that every night before bed.
  2.  I also use Yes to Blueberries Intensive Skin Repair Serum (http://www.amazon.com/Yes-To-Blueberries-Intensive-1-Fluid/dp/B0044TNORO/ref=sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1376276711&sr=1-1&keywords=yes+to+blueberries+intensive+skin+repair+serum) This one I use everyday in the morning before putting on my make up ( I am using E.L.F. make up by the way) and I put it on at night before the Calming Night Cream.
  • All Yes to Cucumbers products have ratings between 1-3 for toxicity (I dont see my specific one on the website)
  • My specific Yes to Blueberries cream gets a 4 Rating.  Not perfect but I’ve cut out the toxins quite a bit!  Someday maybe I will learn how to make my own, but for now this is pretty good.  And my skin feels AWESOME so Im happier than I was before!

I do not get paid to advertise any of this… Im not getting points if you click the Amazon links… I just put them there to give you a visual.  You can find these products at your local Target or Walmart which is way easier than ordering online.

On my legs and body I use an aromatherapy sweet orange and patchouli body butter that smells awesome by aura cacia.  I think in the future when this one is empty I will order from Young living next time.  ( I just looked Aura Cacia cream up and it gets a 4 rating.  Unfortunately don’t see Young Living in the ewg database.)

I use this shaving cream: eos ultra moisture lavendar jasmine http://www.amazon.com/EOS-Moisturizing-Lavender-Jasmine-7-Ounce/dp/B001MS7P1Q/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1376277890&sr=1-2&keywords=shaving+cream+eos  I can’t find this one on the ewg website either, but it’s made with natural aloe, oat, and shea butter, vitamin E & C.  I will have to do more research on this one and get back to you all!

This is me only a couple weeks after doing this:

969409_10151775283074222_918297124_n (2)  my skin was not real bad to begin with, BUT I have noticed a difference in how soft it feels which I can’t really show in a picture.  You’ll just have to try it for yourself.  What works for me though won’t necessarily work for everyone.  Experiment with the EWG Skin Deep website and search for stuff until you find something you like that doesnt get rated an 8 !! Because it probably is ruining your skin more than helping it with a rating like that!
